IM-OT was founded by Sasha L. Stewart, an awarded practitioner and speaker with a desire to bring awareness to the intricate role that Occupational Therapy (OT)/ an Occupational Therapist (OT) can have in the life of clients who have sustained an injury or acquired an illness. The company is future focused; despite major rehabilitation challenges, clients are enabled to achieve far more then they had thought possible thanks to the holistic, client-centred approach of an OT.
An OT is a health professional that empowers people of all ages to overcome barriers in their everyday lives so they can do more and live better.
Empowerment is a term often used without a true sense of meaning. It is defined many different ways depending on the reciprocal exchange between the sender and the receiver. It can mean a sense of awareness; a feeling of strength to overcome a perceived obstacle and it can also help to give a platform to a voice often unheard. IM-OT, was created to remind individuals that "IM" = YOU. IMpowerment is reaching a state of contentment embedded in your own acceptance of who you are as a distinct individual in this world. After a life changing moment, which may be due to an injury or illness, it is common for you to think about wanting your life to be the way that it use to be. You may become fearful of how your current limitations will impact you and even family members in the future. IM-OT will help you to recognize what is within your control to change and what is not. Furthermore, occupational therapists will assist you with embracing the present and move forward with the new you to achieve an optimal quality of life.
The theory behind the approach is simple, reframing the way you think to flourish the best you!
Our occupational therapists work in various settings (i.e. hospital, home, school, workplace) to address the needs of a client. Our OTs will identify meaningful goals with clients and develop a plan of action for achievement. Goals can be related to how a client is physically functioning, how a client is thinking or feeling. An OT can provide consultation, strategies for environmental adaptation/modification, recommendations for assistive devices to enable function, cognitive remediation or compensatory strategies. Throughout the intervention, our OTs will ensure a collaborative, culturally friendly approach with our clients, family members, circle of care health professionals and related community partners.
How you make people feel after they meet you is more important than what you say. Their experience with you becomes your business card.
